What Is Domain Authority? And Why It Is Important

What Is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority (DA) is a metric that Moz uses to create SEO tools. It was created to predict how well a website will rank in search engine results pages (SERPs). The DA scale runs from 0 to 100. Higher scores indicate a better chance of ranking high in the SERPs. Low scores suggest that your page may not appear near the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Because it's a predictive metric, it's best employed as a relative rating rather than an absolute one — you should aim for a higher domain authority than your competitors, but you don't have to aim for a perfect 100 DA. You may be reasonably confident that your content will fulfil its objectives as long as your score is higher than your competitors'.

How to score high Domain Authority?

Domain Authority is measured on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100, which means that increasing your DA from 0 to 10 is tenfold easier than increasing it from 90 to 100. New websites begin with a DA of 1 and can increase from there.

So, what precisely goes on beneath the hood? To determine its rating, Moz compares domain link data with real-world SERPs using machine learning models. While DA takes a holistic approach, it places a strong emphasis on links.
